Business Development Update

This week’s focus for Business Development Tuesday is on Networking.  Part of networking is developing relationships with COI’s (Center of Influences) or in the One Energy lingo what we refer to as Dolphins.  These are individuals who can make introductions to companies we are currently scouting. And more importantly, they usually make introductions to the right decision makers for our type of projects and help give a sense of credibility to what we do.

Recently, Matt Gillroy, the Executive Director of the Fulton County Economic Development, introduced One Energy to Sauder Woodworking’s COO and Manager of Sustainability, Garrett Tinnsman, and are now scheduled to meet with them on June 15th.

There are a number of places to meet Dolphins, like Matt Gillroy.  One of the long standing associations we have been involved with is NORED, the Northwest Ohio Regional Economic Development Association (www.nored.org).  NORED represents 12 counties in northwestern Ohio and meets on a monthly basis to exchange information about business opportunities and economic development in the region.  The membership also has a legislative arm to stay active in Columbus for its members and state activities.  As a member of NORED, we are able to meet and educate economic development professionals and developers on the benefits of Wind for Industry projects and stay current on the upcoming opportunities in the region.

To enhance our networking opportunities, One Energy recently joined OMA, the Ohio Manufacturing Association (www.ohiomfg.com). They have a very simple yet complex mission statement…“To protect and grow Ohio manufacturing.” Many large manufacturing companies in Ohio are members of this organization, including a number of corporations that we have been scouting, i.e. Honda, and  Pro-Tec.  Participating in this organization helps us to have a better presence with companies throughout Ohio, and allows us to better understand issues and concerns that our customers are dealing with and how we can best be a solution for them.

Our participation in these two organizations and other networking activities that we are involved with both locally and regionally, keep us informed and in tuned with our business development efforts.   Watch the weekly summaries and News Feed posts for more information.  If you have any questions about our participation or information about potential customers, please communicate with Jeff.

This photo from Friday, is of the front entrance to the new building.  In the ACI meeting last week, we confirmed the door and glass front for the entrance.

Megawatt Scholarship–Harpster

Picture

Due to the unique circumstances for the Harpster Wind Farm, we have found a fabulous alternative for the Megawatt Scholarship funds. The  High School Science Department in Upper Sandusky has been running their Science Olympiad program with minimal to no funds over the last decade.  The instructor and kids have been making kits with old barn siding and components they have gathered from different volunteers. This scholarship will be specifically setup for any needs the Olympiad program incurs from kits and supplies to program fees and travel.

The instructor, upon hearing about this scholarship opportunity, could not have been more appreciative and even more excited to tell the kids.  He noted in the email he sent to me yesterday, that the kids are already starting a “wish list” and when I spoke to him a week ago, he mentioned that “we can really look at some advanced activities now”.  The instructor will keep us posted and send photos on the projects over the school year.  Truly looking forward to seeing what these kids can do!
