Business Development Update

This week’s focus on BD Tuesday comes from Jeff about the importance of the Stakeholder’s meeting.

Why does One Energy manage the messaging so closely?  In the Rickover Effect, the term “loose lips sink ships” was a statement that hit home to me as I began to learn why confidentiality is so important to One Energy.  The term can also be translated into “beware of unguarded talk”.  Controlling the flow of information is very important to One Energy because of the complexities of the projects and the number of entities involved with the development of a project.

Yesterday, the Valfilm Wind Project was announced to the local stakeholders in the community in advance of the public release scheduled for today.  Valfilm and One Energy held a joint meeting to inform elected officials and supporting entities in the community about the project in order that they may be able to effectively answer any questions they might get from the community about the project.  Those invited to the meeting included Hancock County Economic Development Director, Tim Mayle, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Dionne Neubauer, the Allen Township Trustees, the County Commissioners, the Police and Fire Chief for both the City of Findlay and Allen Township, and the emergency responders to the project.  In addition, we invited Cliff Hite, the State Senator from District 1, Robert Sprague, the State Representative from District 83, and LuAnne Cook representing Governor Kasich’s office.

The meeting allows all the stakeholders in the community to hear about the project at the same time and in advance of the public release. It provides the public officials a better understanding of the importance of the project to Valfilm, and enables them to get clarity on the details so as to better educate their staff and constituents.  It is imperative that the leaders in the community understand the “why” behind the project as well as the details of a Wind for Industry project.

After the meeting, the press release was sent out to local affiliates.
